North Meadow Hymn

I fell and stumbled on my feet
I fell down and I fell asleep
in a bed of thorny arms and poison ivy
and yet I got a better rest
than in this nice room, I must confess
or in any kind of bed I've known all down the highway

I came across the desert far
in a burned out little car
and a pair of boots worn right on through the soles
I was trying to make my way back home
to the little woods where I came from
and a little of that wisdom I was born to know

I fell and stumbled on my feet
I fell down and I fell asleep
in a bed of thorny arms and poison ivy
and yet I got a better rest
than anywhere the cars congest
and people yell outside my window, all down the highway

I fell and stumbled on my feet
I fell down and I fell asleep
on a bed of thorny arms and poison ivy
and yet I got a better rest
than in this nice room I must confess
or in any seat or bed I've known all down the highway
or any seat or bed I've known all down the highway
